Printer's expanded temperature range a key factor in parking meter manufacturer

Digital Payment Technologies Selects FutureLogic's KBM2-60 Printers

GLENDALE, Calif. — April 9, 2009 — FutureLogic, Inc. announced today that its KBM2-60 direct thermal printer has been selected by Digital Payment Technologies (DPT) for use in DPT’s parking meter applications.

DPT designs, manufactures and distributes parking meters for the North American market. The company will install FutureLogic’s KBM2-60 printers in its LUKE and SHELBY pay stations, which print receipts for parkers and reports for operators. According to Chris Chettle, Digital Payment Technologies’ VP of Marketing and Product Management, DPT selected the KBM2-60 printer for three reasons:

  • extended operating temperature range,
  • the ability to load templates on the printer, and
  • overall reliability.

FutureLogic’s KBM2-60 printer is designed specifically for high-reliability kiosk applications such as gas pumps, parking garages, transit pay stations, and other harsh outdoor environments. Whereas competitive products are limited to a temperature range of approximately 0°C to 50°C, the KBM2-60 printer is rated for a temperature range of -30°C to +70°C.

The KBM2-60 printers also use FutureLogic’s TCL™ (Thermal Controller Language) printer language, a proprietary language developed by FutureLogic. The TCL printer language is one of the most powerful features of the printer’s system controller. By using page-mode, or template, printing, most of the work of creating complicated tickets is done by the printer rather than the host application.

“In our region of the country, pay stations must be rugged. FutureLogic’s KBM2-60 printers are specifically designed to withstand extreme outdoor environments and also provide the reliability we need,” said Chettle. “Another factor that influenced our decision was FutureLogic’s willingness to make their printers RoHS-compliant at our request.”

Steve Zbin, Business Development Manager-OEM Applications for FutureLogic, said: “Not only are we pleased that Digital Payment Technologies has selected our KBM2-60 printers for their 2009 pay stations, we are delighted that the company is almost doubling the number of units they will install, in comparison to last year. We see this as a validation of our efforts to provide our customers with the best possible products and services — tailored to their individual requirements.”
