QA Test Engineer II (Lead)
Job Description
Responsible for the development and execution of design verification and validation
testing, managing the development of our test fixtures and manufacturing printer
test software routines through contracted sources, establishing and conducting reliability
testing, and failure analysis as required on FutureLogic printers, accessories,
subsystems and components. This includes establishing good test laboratory practices,
and organizing and performing testing and analysis on products per established schedules.
This position will perform a variety of tasks under supervision of the VP of Quality
in support of the verification and validating of our designs and supplier products.
Must support engineering in coordinating and performing testing and providing constructive
and accurate test results, including helping develop engineering specifications,
producing detail test reports and design test data sheets and reporting their results.
This position may require interfacing with customers when developing test protocols
on either new product development and/or when testing existing products. This position
will require supervising personnel performing testing within the QA Test Laboratory
and overseeing contract services for our test hardware and software development.
Supervisory Responsibility
This is a lead position and will require the supervising and organizing the tasks
and personnel performing these tasks to ensure schedules are met and good test laboratory
practices are being implemented and followed.
Contacts
- Internal: Interfaces with all departments within the company. The main internal
customer for this position is engineering and this position must work closely with
engineering and help develop test plans and convey their results.
- External: Interfaces with customers and any suppliers (s) necessary to develop
and maintain FutureLogic products.
Principal Responsibilities and Standards
- Developing our test plans and conducting various types of testing that include;
environmental testing, engineering specification testing, symbology testing, power
management, emissions, regression testing, Firmware/Software, reliability testing
(On-going reliability testing-ORT, Life testing, component specific, HATL/HASS,
and Design Maturity testing) and analysis of our products.
- Must be able to organize the QA Test Laboratory assignments, equipment, projects,
and reports and maintain clean and functional test areas. This includes creating
and maintaining applicable test laboratory metrics.
- Ability to work with contract sources on the development of our ICT's, functional
test fixtures, and manufacturing test software and work with our suppliers on the
design of test equipment and manage the fabrication and qualification of the test
equipment and test software.
- Able to manage and maintain the QA Lab project schedules. Including calculating
the times and resources required to complete projects and tasks and manage these
processes to ensure project schedules are met and are staying within budget.
- Will use advance analysis tools as required; FMEA's, Design of Experiments (D.O.E.'s),
and other statistical tools and techniques (as required).
- Will participate in Design Reviews and product test review meetings to convey test
results and provide inputs into our product development processes, (as required).
- Provide guidance and ensure that the QA Test Laboratory functions are performed
properly and implement and utilize best practices for our QA Test Lab and product
testing.
- Provide leadership and help improve the skills set and efficiencies of our QA Test
Lab personnel.
- Help the repair department diagnose returned printers to determine the root cause
of failure. This involves taking apart printers, evaluating wear/corrosion, component
failure analysis, and taking into consideration any known history before reaching
conclusions and documenting and communicating the failure analysis results.
- Must be hands on and a self-starter and have the vision to make improvements with
our processes and products and lead the efforts necessary to develop a good and
sound QA Test lab.
- Travel: Required to travel to our manufacturing facility to update and implement
test software, and test fixtures and some travel to customers and suppliers may
be required.
- Performs related duties as assigned or directed by the VP of Quality.
Qualifications
Education: Technical Degree or equivalent required.
Experience: 4+ years in an engineering test environment
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Report writing skills is a requirement and must have the ability to document accurate
test results within data sheets.
- Having the ability to use Visual Basic, LabVIEW and Goop Tool suite for developing
and C to help develop our test software is a plus!
- Knowledge and familiarity of electro-mechanical devices, electronics, test equipment,
materials, and assembly techniques.
- Skilled at computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook,
and Internet Explorer.
- Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical, firmware and electrical problems.
Working Conditions
Standard test laboratory environment, with possible travel to trade shows, clients,
other Company locations.
Physical job requirements:
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers.
- Pushing or pulling carts, moving equipment
- Lifting requiring MINIMAL effort (lifting over 30 lbs. for example)
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, use phone system, manipulate
parts for assembly, or equivalent
